Meet the Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are active chemical compounds that come from the cannabis plant. These compounds play an important role within one of the body’s physiological systems called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Cannabinoids act on the receptors in the ECS, alter the release of neurotransmitters in the brain and provide the necessary “fuel” for the system to run. The endocannabinoid system creates internal balance in processes like sleep, mood regulation, infection, pain and immune function.

CBD: Prevention and Fighting Cancer

CBD, cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid that comes from the hemp plant. The hemp plant comes from the Cannabis Sativa family, but hemp does not contain the psychoactive properties associated with marijuana plants. CBD will not get the user “high” and boasts many health benefits. CBD is legal due to its trace amount of THC (0.3% or less) and is available to those seeking health remedies without the side effects of prescription medication.

Cannabis CBD vs. Hemp CBD

Both hemp CBD and Cannabis CBD come from the same mother plant, Cannabis Sativa L. So, what is the difference? The mother plant is responsible for creating brother and sister plants. In this case, the brother plant is hemp and the sister plant is marijuana.

The brother hemp plant is used to create hemp CBD, which is mainly composed of CBD and less than 0.3% of THC. The brother plant does not have any buds.
